What is this, Taxi Share?

94% of flight passengers will continue from the airport to city. Many with a taxi. Most as a single rider.

Does it always have to be that way?

You can find a taxi co-rider on Taxi-Share. You'd split the fare with him or her and perhaps meet a fantastic travelling soul on the way to your destination. Someone from the same flight!

taxi   You two would meet at the baggage claim at latest, but probably would say Hello even earlier on the plane. The meeting can't be any simpler.

Airport of the month: Santo Domingo [SDQ]

Travel to the Dominican Republic

1 There major arrival airports are Santo Domingo [SDQ], Punta Cana [PUJ] and Puerto Plata [POP]. Santo Domingo, the nation's capital, carries a wide range of travellers: locals, business, official and tourists who mainly go eastwards to the beaches between Boca Chica and Juan Dolio. A local fare to Santo Domingo goes for about $30-$40, to Boca Chica $25 and to one of the hotels towards Juan Dolio between $40 and $60. Sharing is permitted.

2 Punta Cana [PUJ] on the east coast is the heaviest tourist hub in the country. A large number of arrivals is heading for the beaches of Bavaro and the numerous all-inclusive resorts there. Air fares to Punta Cana are usually lower compared with other airports. Taxi sharing is permitted.

3 Puerto Plata [POP] airport on the north coast carries tourists, expatriates who reside in the country as well the Dominicans living abroad who come to visit their families. A popular destination for foreign visitors is the stretch to the east of the airport between Sosua and Rio San Juan.

4 Due to low airfares some travellers buy a ticket to Punta Cana [PUJ] and then are seeking ways to get to their real destinaton on the North Coast (in the Puerto Plata area). This is not simple, because as per 2018 there are no bus connections from Punta Cana to Puerto Plata. Taxi-Share would be a very reasonable option here.
